A man who made a video recording of an assault at a Massachusetts club, turned himself in, and was charged with assault, kidnapping and robbery. In a rather hard to comprehend story in the Worcester Telegram, the man who turned himself in says he was ordered by his boss at the time to follow him into the men’s room of the strip club where he worked, and use his phone to record the boss as he assaulted another man, and took money from his wallet. The man who actually committed the assault was arrested last month and has been charged with assault, and presumably the other offenses as well.
The assault incident itself achieved some prominence when it was uploaded to youtube, and was seen thousands of times on the internet.
But the entire incident really doesn’t make any sense. Why would the perpetrator want the assault documented and shown publicly? Was it some kind of public threat, or shakedown warning? Uploading a video of a violent crime would seem to be not the best way to protect ones self from attracting the attention of the police, and getting arrested and charged.
It’s not clear if the incident ever would have come to light without the video out for public viewing.
Without further insight or information on the motivations, we’ll have to chalk this one up to “criminals don’t always make the smartest choices”. That probably covers it.

It will be interesting to learn whether or not the kid really was an unwilling participant in the incident, but there is a real chance he could be convicted as an accessory to the crimes.
